(travel diary) DAY 5: Strawberry Fields… FOREVER

…something that you can’t leave behind in a visit to the ‘Big Apple‘ is, precisely, its green spot: Central Park with its four miles long and nearly one in width! …and, there are so many ways to start the visit: the touristic way – managing through the 5th Avenue or Columbus Circle – the cultural way – with the amazing Guggenheim and the Metropolitan as landmarks – and there’s, also, the emotional way – stepping into the Dakota Building and facing Strawberry Fields

For today we had prepared a “new” soundtrack – for moments, the “New Yorker sounds” were forgotten, leaving us in a live tribute to The Beatles, so…

«…let me take you down, cause Im going to… Strawberry fields…»

Even from far, we can immediately notice the location of the image that goes through our mind for months (months? I mean for… ever!): IMAGINE immortalized in a green embrace filled in portuguese cobblestone… yes, we know, we know it was an offer from the city of Naples… but that seems so portuguese!*…

*important note: …its not an easy task to take a picture… so be ppaattiieenntt… not like someone I know (cof, cof) that was so close to a nervous breakdown!

Following the maze that Central Park can be, we find an oasis of calm – that sometimes make us forget that we’re still in the hustle and bustle city – plenty of friendly confines and magical places…

…reviving memories from a countless number of movies (…we bet anything – well… better not that much! – that Central Park is one of the most filmed places on earth!)… who will forget When Harry Met Sally? Everyone Says I Love You…or any other Woody Allen movie…? “Home Alone?!?

As we settled down, we found ourselves delighted with the frame of people around us… street artists coloring the landscape, children playing and laughing, unstoppable runners, lovely couples… All of us, together, surrounded by bubbling fountains and sunbathed trees, a reservoir and a boating lake… and a castle!…

…and the best place to observe is on the top of the Umpire Rock - a huge bedrock that is claiming to be climbed – as the cherry in the top of the cake.

«…let me take you down, cause Im going to… Strawberry fields…»
